G2 Curriculum Update: April 22nd

Reading: This week students will explore how authors use language to craft stories by investigating how authors use precise words and literary language to help create vivid pictures for their readers. 

Writing: This week we will begin to explore how we write opinions about topics other than books.  They will brainstorm different topics they could have opinions about and reasons that would support their opinions.


Math: Problem Solving with Coins and Bills!

KEY VOCABULARY:  One Penny = 1 cent/ One Nickel = 5 cents/ One Dime = 10 cents/ One Quarter = 25 cents.
·         Bar Graph: Diagram showing data using lines or rectangles of equal width
·         Data: Facts assembled for analysis or information
·         Degree: Unit of temperature measure
·         Foot: ft., unit of length measure, equal to 12 inches
·         Inch: in., unit of length measure
·         Legend: Notation on a graph explaining what symbols represent
·         Line Plot: Graph representing data with an X above each instance of value on a number line

·         Picture graph: Representation of data like a bar graph, using pictures instead of bars
How can you help at home:
·         Once your child has learned a few ways of representing data, find something around the house you can make a line or bar graph about, e.g., types of stuffed animals, colors of LEGO pieces, favorite books, etc.


Grammar/Word Study: The students will continue to learn about suffixes this week in word study.  In grammar the focus will be subject/verb agreement.

Social Studies:
 Due to the short week there will not be a social studies lesson this week.

Português: Nessa semana, os alunos irão ler, ouvir e assistir histórias, para assim continuar ampliando seu repertório sobre Contos de Fadas. Também trabalharão com o Livro de Historinha

PAL: Due to the short week, students will have the time to finish work undone and listen to a book being read aloud to them by the teacher.
