Ms. England's Class April Update

Grammar Time

Contraction surgery

We became word surgeons to help two words become one. We practiced how to read and say contractions while we made them. Please help us to notice contractions in the books we read at home, and ask us to figure out the two words the contractions make on our stories. This will help us to better understand what we are reading.

We also have a few videos on youtube that we like about contractions:

Semana Literaria

Students enjoyed listening to both adult and student authors throughout this special week.

Marble Jar Celebration

After earning marbles all year long, for following the Eagle Way as a class, we finally filled the jar all the way to the top! We had an amazing day to celebrate this achievement. We got to wear PJs to school, bring a toy to share during our extra long morning recess, we watch a movie and ate pizza for the last period of the day, and to top it all Abbie (Ms. England's dog) came to spend the day! It was a blast!! We wonder if we can refill the jar before the end of the year?

Big Events in May

We have a very busy May ahead of us!

This week on Friday, May 10th, we have our final assembly for the year. The theme of this assembly is superheros. Everyone can pick a superhero and dress like her/him (Superman, Wonder Woman, JK Rowling, Mom, Dad... anyone we feel is a superhero)

Next week on Friday, May 17th, first grade has our late night extravaganza! Please make sure to fill out the permission slip and send it back to school by May 13th. Students who have Eaglets soccer can go to soccer while the other children are on the playground. After soccer, they should stay on the field to meet the rest of the grade to continue with the festivities.

The following week, on Friday, May 24th, we have our final assembly to Toca da Reposa. We are very excited to further our understanding of animals and plants from our region of the globe.
