Curriculum Update

Literacy- During reader’s workshop students have been studying character traits and how learning about characters and their relationships can help us understand while we read. In writing, students are working on adding "fancy" or "sparkling" vocabulary to their writings (IE "dashed" instead of "ran" or "blurted" instead of "said"). Additionally, students are working identifying and using past, present and future verb tenses (IE played, playing, will play).

Math-Students are working on fractional parts of a whole, exploring halves, thirds, and fourths. They are also being introduced to symmetry, where they need to complete the other half of a design. The students continue to solve story problems and practice addition and subtraction facts through fact families and “What’s my Rule?” tables.

Social Studies- Students are beginning to compare families. Students are discovering the similarities and differences between their families and others in the class by looking at family traditions, history, culture, and celebrations.

Portuguese- Estamos lendo diversos livros e assistindo a filmes para entender o que é um Bioma, quais são os biomas brasileiros e quais as características da Floresta Amazônica e da Mata Atlântica. Paralelamente, estamos tendo ricas discussões sobre quais animais habitam essas florestas e as razões porque alguns deles estão em risco de extinção. Nas próximas semanas, continuaremos a nos aprofundar neste assunto.
