Build Confidence! 55 Positive Things To Say To Your Child
As the holiday approaches, families will have more time together. Here is an article with some suggestions of ways to build your child’s confidence. “As parents, the way we speak to our children is incredibly important. Words can build kids up, and they can just as easily tear them down. Which is why finding positive things to say to your child matters!” continue reading Build Confidence! 55 Positive Things To Say To Your Child

Summer Holiday Activities

Dear 1st-Grade Families,

It has been a wonderful semester! As you prepare for the holidays, consider the following ideas for continuing learning at home, or on the road as you travel!

Reading: Please read every day! You may choose to join the "LS Reads" initiative by reading Flora & Ulysses, which is available for free on Tumblebooks.com (Username: Graded, password: books) We've enjoyed reading Chapter 1 in class together! This is a fun book for you to continue to read as a family together.

If you need some book recommendations while on break, here is a great recommended book list. Don't forget to log-in to Raz-kids.com to read loads of "just right books".

Writing: Please continue to practice your writing over the summer holiday. Here are some recommendations of what you and your child can do over break:
  • Keep a journal sharing about your most memorable holiday experiences (pictures are also encouraged).
  • For those traveling: write post cards to grandparents, and even back to school, sharing a highlight of your trip.
  • Help with meals by writing the grocery list.

Math: Students may work on Mathletics.com. They should practice their math skills 2-4 times per week during the holidays. A couple of areas in math to review:
  • Continue practicing addition and subtraction facts to 10
  • It is important for Math to come alive in everyday situations. Please refer to this site for ideas on how to make mathematical thinking visible to your child.

For more fun summer activity ideas please visit this site. We hope you continue on your educational journey over the summer and we look forward to seeing you in January!!

Love,
The First Grade Teachers

Ms. England's Class's Wax Museum

After learning about and interviewing many of the community helpers here at Graded, we applied our new knowledge to host a spectacular wax museum. We worked extremely hard to be able to teach others about the important jobs that our community helpers do everyday. It was especially rewarding to share our museum with the community helpers we were portraying! Thank you so much to everyone who came out and visited our museum!
