We need cereal boxes!

Hi First Grade Parents,First graders are working on their final unit in Writer’s Workshop. Students are developing their own characters in their writing and some have completed some of the books for their series of stories. As students are finishing books in their series, we will be collecting cereal boxes or boxes of a similar size to make a box set. Our hope is it will look a little like the picture below.

Please feel free to bring in more than one box as students may have more than one series or could give it to another students.

Thank you for your help and support. The First Grade Team

Eagle Shout Outs

April Birthdays
Happy Birthday to Maria, Ella, and Somin. It was filled with fun and treats.

Swimming
Students enjoyed the first time in the new pool and took some swimming lessons. They got to use noodles and other fun toys. They enjoyed diving off the block and they learned some swimming strokes. It was quite an adventure.

Semana Literaria
Students enjoyed listening to authors from adult writers to student writers. They also heard some students do some excellent reading in their books.

SLCs
Students really enjoyed having parents celebrate their learning with them at Student-Led Conferences. Watching everyone together was a delight. Check out the pictures below of all the activities.

Thank you to everyone for helping with our basket at Celebration of the World and to all those who volunteered or participated in our school events in the month of April.

Why are There Age Restrictions on Social Media?
From time to time, we as a school need to support children with actions that have occured on social media (this includes, but is not limited to: Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger). Why do we get involved, specifically when this occurs outside of school? We are involved because it affects learning. Students come to school (or in some cases, want to avoid coming to school) upset and/or unable to focus because of unkind actions of others on social media. We often remind parents that there are specific ages for social media use. This is important, as children under the age of 13 often don’t understand the full implications of their actions online. We encourage all parents to read 3 Reasons Why Social Media Age Restrictions Matter to reflect more on this important topic. Please remember if your child has a device, it is important to check it regularly.
