Please return any books that you have checked out, as well. Each returning family can check-out up to 10 books, with vacation checkout starting on Dec. 10. Please encourage your children to have a special, safe place for their library books.

Don't forget we also have a number of digital resources available for you. Use our LS Library Website as your one-stop-shop! Read or listen to books from Tumblebooks, catch up on the latest magazines, or watch fun educational videos on Brainpop. Login information is included on the site.

Most importantly, read, read, read (and have fun doing it)! Read our LS Reads book - Flora & Ulysses - together as a family over the vacation. It's available on Tumblebooks for free! More information coming soon.

Curriculum Update

Literacy-  Students are working on building fluency and expression through rereading and
“punching” words in sentences for emphasis. In grammar, students are working on identifying
verbs and nouns, and using this knowledge to help them construct a complete sentence.

Math- Students are beginning to investigate place-value concepts for tens and ones.
They continue to work on their proficiency with addition and subtraction facts.

Social Studies-Students are finishing up their interviews and preparing for their oral
presentations about community workers at school.

Ms. England's Class's Community Helpers Interviews

This trimester we are learning about community helpers right here in Graded. In order to better understand the community helpers, everyone has had the opportunity to interview different helpers around campus. We found out how long people have worked here, their day to day activities, how they work with teams, tools they use, how they help the Graded community and how we can help them.

Dr. Purcell, LS Librarian

Mr. Boerner, Graded Superintendent

Mr. Switzer, Activities and Athletics Director

Mr. Silvio, Head of Transportation

Mr. Rogerio, Head of Security

Mr. Beth, LS Secretary

Mr. Hossack, LS & MS Instructional Coach

Mr. Bobbie, LS Counselor

Mr. Deusdeth, Graded Firefighter

Ms. Juliana, Graded Nurse

Donna Wilma, LS Cleaner

Ms. Beckley, LS Assistant Principal

Mr. Boisjoli, LS Principal

Donna Emilia, Head of Kitchen.
After interviewing Donna Emilia, we were given a special tour of the kitchen. We didn't know that our school has its very own herb garden, massive refrigerators, tanks of propane to run the tools in the kitchen, its own mini store, gigantic pots and pans, plus over 30 staff. It was amazing to see all the different tools that our cooks and chefs use to prepare food for the school!

In order to learn more about each of these amazing community helpers, please join us on Friday, November 30th at 8:45 for our wax museum. During the wax museum, each of us will take on the role of the community helper we interviewed, and we will teach all of our guests about our community helpers. We hope to see you there!!
