Ms. England's Class Updates
Student Led Conferences
Thank you so much to all our moms, dads, sister, brothers, grandparents and nannies who came to our student led conferences. We loved being able to show you just a small glimpse of all the learning we have been doing so far this year! Ms. England tried to capture many of our conferences, but she was caught up a few times, so she apologizes for any missed photos. Here are a few family conference photos that she did manage to take:
Author Sharing
As we come to a close of our first unit of study in writing, we were excited to publish our first book in first grade. To celebrate our achievement as authors, we presented our books to the entire class. It was a blast!
Middle School Plays
Last month we also had the opportunity to go and watch the middle school theater students present short plays on old classic stories. It was incredible to see how much they could portray with just their bodies and words (no props)!
Important Upcoming Dates

Eagle Way Tip of the Week
This week, we begin the month of November and highlighting Graded’s Core Value of kindness. The week of Nov. 5 is our schoolwide kindness week and LS students will have daily challenges. Please join us by conducting acts of kindness at home and in the community. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation has a wealth of information and ideas to help you get started.
Halloween Parade
Our Halloween parades will take place on Thursday. For half day students (full day Pre-Primary students also participate) the parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Lower School Office. For full day students (K5 to 5th grade) the parade will begin at 2:10 p.m. on the field.
We encourage children to dress in fantasy costumes that are creative and fun, but discourage violent and horror costumes. Pre-Primary students may come dressed in their costumes from home. First through Fifth grade students should bring costumes to change into at school in the afternoon.
Our afternoon parade will take place on the field this year. All Graded Students will be present and parents are welcome to watch from the stands. Lower School students will start the parade and complete a lap around the field. The students will then walk to their classroom where they will have a party. All parents are welcome to join classroom parties! If you are taking your child home after the party, please ensure the classroom teacher is aware.

Walk-a-thon
First Grade Walk-a-thon
On Friday November 9th, at 9:00 am on the Graded track, all first graders will complete as many laps as they can on the track to raise money for Fundacão Dorina Nowill, a foundation that helps the blind by publishing and distributing books in Braille (https://www.fundacaodorina.org.br/), and for Amigos do Sopão (www.amigosdosopao.org), an organization that serves the homeless here in São Paulo.
Before the walk-a-thon begins, students need to get pledges from friends, family members, and/or neighbors who will sponsor them for a certain amount of money per lap. (Ideally, students complete between 5 to 10 laps.) All money raised will go directly to Fundacão Dorina Nowill and Amigos do Sopão. Please support your child in obtaining pledges from family, friends, neighbors, etc. Every first grader will participate even if they are unable to get pledges. Parents are invited to come and cheer us on or walk along with us on November 9th at 9:00 am on the track.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Pledge forms are due on or before the morning of November 9th. Then they will be tallied and returned to the students that day so they can immediately start collecting their pledges. Students will have a week to collect and bring in the money they have earned.
Thank you for your support,
The First Grade Team

Eagle Way Tip of the Week
One of the traits of people who are described as having integrity is that they apologize. They admit their mistakes and try to make things better. Sincere apologies have 3 parts:
As part of our focus on integrity this month, we will be reviewing this with the students. Consider using it in your home as well.
Student-Led Conferences
This Wednesday we will have our second day of Student-Led Conferences for students in K5 to 5th grade. There are no classes on these days, students only attend during their scheduled conference time. There will be supervision on the playground for any families attending with more than one child.

Eagle Way Tip of the Week
Teaching integrity is more than just a series of lessons, but also a way of being. This article, written specifically for parents, shares 4 ways to teach integrity every day:
1. Lead by example by acting with integrity.
2. Be specific in your reasoning.
3. Offer examples of positive moral behaviors.
4. Understand that outside influences will affect character development.
Read the article for more information about each of the four strategies.
Report Cards
Just a reminder trimester one report cards will be available on Veracross on October 17. Please do review this report with your child.
