Ms. England's Class's Dorina Nowill Field Trip

Last week we had our very first field trip to Dorina Nowill. In class we have been learning all about the Eagle Way and overcoming challenges. We've discussed how challenges are different for different people. Some people have a challenge of not being able to see, and a person who cannot see is blind. In class we studied about Louis Braille and Helen Keller and how both of these people worked really hard to overcome challenges in their lives, and in the process helped many people with the same challenges. While at Dorina Nowill we met Edil and he read us a very cool story. Edil is blind, so we watched how he is able to use Braille to read a book. After our story, we had a special lesson to teach us how to read and write Braille. Then, we even had the opportunity to practice writing Braille on some special typewriters. It was very interesting!

Half Past Hour (Ms. Heineberg's class)

Students are learning to tell time to the full and half past hour. This is a challenging skill that takes a lot of practice. Ask your child to practice on their paper clocks. There is also a fun game at the app store called What time is it, Mr. Wolf?

Ms. Keane's September Updates

On Thursday, September 6 first graders watched a local Brazilian theater company called Cia Truks. Then, during Portuguese class, Dona Paula took our class to visit the Brazilian Fair about Minas Gerais. What an eventful and special day!

We celebrated two birthdays this month. Happy Birthday Max and Lino!!!

Our field trip to Dorina Nowill was fantastic. We learned about the braille letters composed of a combination of six dots and how to write our names. Then Sr. Edson read us the brazilian folclore story of Bumba Meu Boi in braille. We had such a great time learning and exploring the institute!

This last week our class won the Golden G!! We are so excited to be recognized for our efforts with the Eagle Way!

In Science we have been planting and making green houses. We are learning about not only what plants need but how they grow. Check out the plants below and see how some of the beans are growing.
